The LA Reporter | Sep 15th

Good Morning. The message of the day today… Grace. Today, and for the rest of your life. Strive to be more patient with yourself. Give yourself grace. Allow yourself to not only make the mistakes that are inevitable but to also overcome them. I often find myself trying to rush the process and get somewhere I have in my mind. The truth is you can’t rush any of this life stuff – It comes when it comes.

Nobody does a nice, big steak like LA. With hundreds of high-end restaurants to choose from, we have an abundance of luxury meals to satisfy those well-cut cravings. Whether you like your steak medium well, well done, butterfly, or surf and turf-please indulge in this well-put together list for you to enjoy.

Catch LA

Catch has a huge 36oz USDA Porterhouse on it’s menu for $150, swimming in garlic herb butter. This steak is big enough for two, along with it’s 10oz Filet Mignon, and two different types of Waygu. You can also order Filet Skewers if you’re going a little light on the meat for the evening. We know you’ll come for the vibes, the picture in front of the door, and the instagram-worthy scenery. This rooftop makes eating the last thing to think about.

8715 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90069,

Steak 48

Steak 48 makes it an absolute point to only offer the best. As a sister restaurant of Maestro’s, the name Steak 48 is a nod to their very first restaurant opening in Arizona which is the 48th state. Home of the sizzling plates, this 500 degree serving kink comes loaded with your favorite sides as well as the usual rib-eye to match. Once you finish, you’ll need a steaming hot towelette after licking your fingers clean.

9680 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90212-2326

Fleming’s

A hometown favorite, one thing Fleming’s is known for is a good steak. I would suggest the El Segundo location, it’s out the way, no traffic, just a perfect little valet situation to get the night started. Their philosophy is all about “approachable, relaxed luxury”, making this the type of place you can roll up to in expensive sweats or eat at the whim after a night out on the town. The Tomahawk steak is the biggest thing on the menu, sitting at a whopping 35oz. It can’t get much better than that.

2301 Rosecrans Ave. Ste 1125. El Segundo, CA 90245.

Top Stories Around The City

We’re 62 days into the labor strike led by the Writers Guild of America and they won’t let up on the Hollywood Production Studios! Their ally, SAG-AFTRA, made it clear today that they’re in complete solidarity as they sponsored todays march from Netflix headquarters on Sunset Boulevard to Paramount Studios on Melrose. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher heartily encouraged protestors to remain steadfast knowing they are shifting the expectation and relationships with wage not only in Hollywood but in many labor forces. She says, “So what we need to do actually is change the culture. That's what this strike is all about. Ever since we went on strike, strikes are happening all over the world. ... Every single place on this Earth you look, people like us are standing up and saying `no more.” Click HERE for the entire story.

Plans are in motion for a new development project in Exposition Park at 900 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Los Angeles,CA 90037.

It’s set to reflect a growing trend in development that combines residential and commercial spaces, making a more convenient and versatile experience for community members. The property that was most recently Banditos Tacos & Tequila and The Menlo Club before that ,holds cultural importance and history for being a place where community members could gathered for food and live music. Anat Escher of Martin Dream, LLC. And architects at KSK Design Inc. proposed a 5,100 square feet six-story, 32 one bedroom design featuring a rooftop restaurant space to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning. The project aligns with the broader plan for Echo Park to revitalize and create a more sustainable, interconnected neighborhoods. With LA’s focus on expanding metro rail connections throughout the city we’ll continue to see an increase in mixed use developments in more melanated or “urban” areas to create convenient housing and help raise property value. The real question is will it remain affordable to those who are native to the area?

691 undercover LAPD officers have filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles. They argue that their privacy has been compromised due to the public release of their information and they fear the exposure will reach criminals they’ve investigated and jeopardize their careers. The info was published on the Watch the Watchers website with names, photographs, serial numbers, ethnicities and ranks. This highlights one of the challenges law enforcement has faced with the public having access to information that can potentially be abused in today’s digital age. It also emphasizes the ongoing debate regarding police reform and accountability with the California Public Records Act. The City Attorney’s Office has yet to reply but I’m interested in knowing how accessible class citizens’ information is and how often our privacy is being violated and exposed.

An Intermission for Watts

In the words of Dom Kennedy, Watts is the motherland. Our spotlight this week focuses on Brandon “Stix”; Salaam-Bailey, otherwise known on instagram as “wattsstix.” Born and raised in Watts, Stix has used his success in the music industry as a rapper, songwriter, and record producer to further his purpose in the community; ultimately starting the Think Watts Foundation, a 501C that has progressed our community in multiple cities by granting access and resources to our empowered youth.

Financial literacy, entrepreneurship development, food distributions, climate justice initiatives, social justice initiatives, sports programming, education, workforce development, coding workshops, and gaming development are only some of the resources that Stix has worked with the Thinks Watts Foundation to push forward.

Huge staples of Los Angeles sporting teams such as the LA Clippers, and LA Rams have given their support for this community bridge.

The NFL and Little Caesars has also gifted the Think Watts Foundation with a $125,000 grant.

Stix is no stranger to using his voice in order to push his community to the forefront of everyone’s minds. By telling the story of importance and urgency for the next generations to come, he has been able to garner so much philanthropy and attention to Watts; a place that is underserved, yet over deserving.
